Staff, students and visitors to the University’s Main Building this St David’s Day (Friday 1st March) will get the chance to taste some of the best food and drink Wales has on offer as part of a day of University-wide events to mark the nation’s annual celebration.
The University’s Main Building’s, VJ Gallery will be transformed into a bustling market place showcasing Welsh food suppliers as well as highlighting the University’s commitment to sourcing Welsh produce.
Visitors will get a chance to taste some of the products on offer which will be on sale in the University’s Main Building Restaurant between 11.00 - 2.00.
The event is part of the "Welcome to Wales" week, created by the member universities of the Higher Education Purchasing Consortium Wales (HEPCW).
The week aims to raise the profile of Welsh produce with universities’ staff, students and visitors. During the week, all participating Welsh universities have agreed to use and promote Welsh produce and foodstuffs throughout their catering operations.
Some of the Welsh producers taking part include: Ashton’s, fishmongers based in Cardiff Central Market; Pontyclun-based vegetarian Indian food supplier, Samosaco; Swansea-based, Lewis’ Pies; North-Wales dairy supplier, Llaeth Y Llan; and Pembrokeshire spring water company, Princes Gate Water.
Other parts of the University will also be holding events to mark St David’s Day.
Libraries across the University are holding activities and exhibitions with a Welsh theme and will take the opportunity to encourage library users to send their thoughts on what improvements could be made to improve our students’ experience.
Children at the University’s Day Care Centre will also get the chance to wear traditional dress.
The University’s Welsh for Adults Centre, based in the School of Welsh, also offer Welsh language courses for adult learner of all levels, across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
