On 2 April 2007 the Welsh Assembly Government's Smoke Free Premises etc (Wales) Regulations 2007 come into force.
Following wide consultation and discussion at various Committees, including Council, the University has revised its smoking policy and the new policy takes effect from 2nd April 2007. The policy can be found here.Within the new Policy the University sets out the commitment that in future premises will be completely smoking free. Smoking will not be permitted in or on any University premises. This will include all communal work areas, individual rooms, stairwells, lifts, grounds and car parks. Smoking will also be prohibited within vehicles owned or operated by the University or vehicles hired or leased for University business.Implementation will be handled sensitively and constructively with a view to supporting those members of the University who wish to stop smoking. The University Health Centre will offer support and advice to those wishing to give up smoking and continue to offer smoking cessation programmes.When undertaking University business on sites owned by other organisations staff will be expected to comply with the smoking policies of those organisations. This will include staff working on the Heath Park Site.
