In the build up to the Six Nations tournament, the University’s Rugby Club is partnering the Welsh Under 20’s squad in a series of training sessions.
Held at the Welsh Rugby Union Centre of Excellence in the Vale of Glamorgan the conditioned training sessions will help Under 20’s squad prepare for their matches against England, Scotland, Ireland, Italy and France.
The sessions will be used by the University side as part of a comprehensive build up to the Welsh Varsity match, which takes place at the Millennium Stadium on 30th March.
"This is great opportunity for Cardiff University Rugby Club, to be offered the chance to train on elite level facilities that are reserved for the National squad use. Training at the Indoor Barn, the new 4G pitch and the Castell Pitch against the Welsh rugby stars of the future is a genuine privilege," said Martyn Fowler, Head of Rugby at the University.
"The benefits for the University rugby club players are two fold. All facilities are an exact match of the dimensions of the pitch at the Millennium Stadium, where the Varsity match will take place. The national squad also play a complete game at a level the student rugby team aspire to achieve and perform at Varsity."
The first session took place recently with the University team excelling in the lineout and the Under 20’s putting up an impressive defence. The next session will take place during the break in the Six Nations tournament.
Tickets for the Varsity match at the Millennium Stadium are available from Ticketmaster online: ticketmaster.co.uk and via telephone: 08442 777888. Cardiff staff and students can visit welshvarsity.com, cardiffboxoffice.com or call in to Cardiff Student’ Union Box Office.
