18 June 2008
Early career opera stars from the University’s Cardiff International Academy of Voice are to perform a selection of work in a public concert.
Held at the University Concert Hall, Corbett Road, CF10 3EB on Thursday 19 June 2008, the concert is part of the Academy’s Song Recital Series.
The four singers, from Australia, Mexico, England and Wales will be joined by pianist Sharon Richards and clarinettist Andrew Roberts. The students will perform songs from their native countries, along with Schubert's classic Shepherd on the Rock, Schwanengesang, Schumann’s Dichterliebe, Brahms’ Zigeunelieder and popular favourite Granada.
The Academy provides specialist training for exceptional opera singers from around the world under the guidance of Dennis O’Neill. Through a series of master-classes and workshops given by established operatic names, the students are able to perfect their vocal techniques and fulfil their world performance potential.
Academy graduates are already making a name for themselves in the operatic world. Amongst them is Jurgita Adamonyte, who took to the stage for the world premiere of best-selling composer Karl Jenkins latest work Stabat Mater, and Laura Parfitt, who was one of four finalists in the Welsh Singers Competition 2008.
Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7.30pm, cost £12 and are available by phone on 02920 481853.
