Cardiff University, as part of its 125th anniversary celebrations, has joined forces with the South Wales Echo to honour an outstanding member of our local communities worthy of becoming the Cardiff University People’s Fellow.

Three weeks remain for nominations to find an outstanding individual from the South Wales community who has gone that extra mile and changed people’s lives for the better.

Cardiff University annually bestows Fellowships upon a small number of individuals who have achieved distinction in their field. And this year, for the first time, the honour of becoming a Cardiff University Fellow will be bestowed upon a member of the public who has demonstrated a sustained positive contribution to the South Wales community.

This is a wonderful opportunity for the University to recognise the valuable and sometimes life-changing contribution many members of our local communities make on a regular basis.

Vice-Chancellor, Dr David Grant said: "From humble beginnings Cardiff’s achievements are a source of pride and inspiration to a great many people. Over the past 125 years, the University has become an essential part of life in Cardiff and Wales, which is why we have decided to celebrate this by honouring a member of the South Wales community with the first People’s Fellow."

Anyone is invited to submit nominations and the successful nominee will be presented with the Fellowship at the annual Graduation Ceremony in July, alongside this year’s Honorary Fellows of the University.

The Fellowship is open to all members of the Cardiff, Valleys and Vale communities. The closing date for nominations is 25 April 2008, and more detailed information about how to nominate can be found at www.cardiff.ac.uk/125.
