After a sell-out masterclass in 2007, internationally renowned opera director Dr Jonathan Miller is returning to the University to work with operatic students.
Dr Miller will give a public masterclass with students from the Cardiff International Academy of Voice on Saturday 7th March 2009.
The event will give the audience a unique insight into his directorial skill and technique, and students will gain first-hand experience of his singular style and approach to directing operas.
Dr Miller is one of the world's leading opera directors. He is also a neurologist, television presenter, humorist and sculptor.
His groundbreaking productions include a Mafia-style Rigoletto for English National Opera, and Armani-clad Cosi Fan Tutti for the Royal Opera. He recently directed The Cherry Orchard at The Crucible, Sheffield, his first work on the British stage for ten years. In over thirty years of working with English National Opera, his productions - including The Mikado and The Barber of Seville - have become house classics.
The Academy is led by renowned international tenor Dennis O’Neill and provides a specialised environment in which young opera stars can refine and perfect their vocal talent. Recently, students gave a public masterclass with Academy President Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and they have also performed at operatic venues around the world.
The masterclass with Jonathan Miller takes place in the University’s Concert Hall, Corbett Road, CF10 3EB and starts at 19.30. Tickets are priced at £12 and £10 concessions and £3.00 students, and are available by calling 02920 391391.
