For a full five days staff across the University will have the chance to indulge in some contemporary therapy, stress-busting workshops, free health tests and much more as part of a new University-wide initiative.
From Monday 15 to Friday 19 June 2009 the University will be home to a wide range of health, wellbeing and environment related activities as part of the Positive Working Environment's latest initiative - Positive Health and Environment Week (PHEW!).
Each day staff will be able to choose from a vast array of free events ranging from Tai Chi taster sessions, blood pressure testing, diabetes testing to walks in the park, bike rides and your very own caricature by Graham 'Picasso' Griffiths, one of Britain’s top caricaturists.
PHEW! activities will be facilitated by internal University service providers as well as external voluntary and private sector organisations and will be taking place across the University campus. In the run up to PHEW!, a series of launch events will be held including a keynote lecture by Professor Mansel Aylward, Director of Centre for Psychosocial and Disability Research (CPDR), on Wednesday 10 June and Blood Pressure health checks on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 June 2009.
Pro Vice-Chancellor for Staff and Diversity Professor Terry Threadgold, said: "We want as many people to take advantage of PHEW!. It’s a great opportunity to try something new and have fun. So whether you want to have your caricature drawn, play in the football tournament or to have a go at belly dancing, we hope that there will be something there for everyone."
Full details of all the Positive Health and Environment Week (PHEW!) events can be found at: www.cardiff.ac.uk/phew. The majority of the activities will be around an hour in duration, and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Please note that you should obtain permission from your line manager before booking your place at any of the activities that take place within your working hours.
