Rugby legends and current stars of the sport will celebrate the University’s 125th anniversary and its involvement in the game at an exclusive event.
The Cardiff University Rugby Club Dinner will be held at the home of Welsh Rugby, the Millennium Stadium on Saturday October 4 2008.
The sporting line up of invited guests includes Welsh Coach Warren Gatland, and former international and British Lions; Gareth Davies, William Raybold, Graham Price, Dr Jack Mathews and Mike Hall.
As well as celebrating rugby at Cardiff, the event will mark the launch of the Former Players Association, a new venture designed to bring together people who have played rugby for the University. In addition, the Association will help support both players and the sport at Cardiff.
The dinner also provides an occasion to honour rugby greats, and Gareth Davies, Graham Price and Dr Jack Matthews will be inducted into the Cardiff University Rugby Club Hall of Fame.
Head of Rugby at the University Martyn Fowler said: "This event will bring many past great players and their team members back to ‘their’ University, a place which undoubtedly shaped their lives. It will be a time to reminisce whilst also looking forward to the future development of the club.
"There will be more than 200 Alumni in attendance who have at one time or another player for the University, the oldest former player in attendance will be aged 86. The current Cardiff University Men’s squad will also be guests at the event, sharing their ideas and thoughts on their university experience. As current caretakers of the Cardiff University Rugby Football Club shirt it is important that they understand the proud heritage and history of all involved in the Rugby Club’s past, as well as helping shape the future of the club."
