Flawless, the World Dance Champions and Britain's Got Talent contenders, handed over a £25,000 donation towards a University breast cancer research project on behalf of Hallmark Cards.

Flawless made the presentation to Dr Richard Clarkson and his researcher Syn Kok Yeo, from the School of Biosciences. Their research team is looking to understand more about how breast cancer occurs, so they can develop new ways of preventing it. Their pioneering research project aims to harness the body’s natural defence against cancer to destroy those cells that lead to the spread of cancer within the body. Dr Clarkson said: "This is a major boost to our efforts in trying to understand the body’s own natural defences against breast cancer. We are extremely grateful to Flawless, to Hallmark and to the Breast Cancer Campaign, which supports our research."

The donation is part of Hallmark’s annual Cards for a Cure campaign for Mother’s Day. In its fifth year, Cards for a Cure™ has donated a total of £1.25 million to the Breast Cancer Campaign’s UK- wide research projects and to Action Breast Cancer, a programme of the Irish Cancer Society.

Tamsyn Johnston-Hughes, CSR Manager at Hallmark Cards said: "The pioneering research being carried out at Cardiff University may help to increase the chance of survival for people with breast cancer. Our Cards for a Cure campaign donation directly benefits this on-the-ground research and is key to funding world class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, prevention and hopefully one day, cure."
