Recent developments at the frontiers of Chemistry will be unveiled at the University next week.
Now in its 11th year, the annual Cardiff Chemistry Conference is a forum for leading scientists from across the world to present the results of their ground-breaking research. Lectures cover the full spectrum of Chemistry as well as the interfaces between Chemistry and other scientific disciplines.
Invited scientists in the last two years have included two Nobel Laureates in Chemistry, reflecting the very high calibre of scientists to have supported this event. The unique format also allows young Cardiff scientists at the very early stages of their research careers to share the same platform as senior scientists from the world of Chemistry.
This year, the Cardiff Chemistry Conference will be held on 14 and 15 May 2012 in the Cardiff School of Chemistry, and invited speakers include: Prof. Peidong Yang (University of California Berkeley, USA), Prof. John Maier FRS (Basel, Switzerland), Prof. David Crich (Wayne State University, USA), Prof. Jeremy Hutson FRS (Durham), Prof. Clare Grey FRS (Cambridge) and Prof. David O'Hagan (St. Andrews). Their lectures will cover topics as diverse as new nanotechnology for energy conversion, the chemistry of the next generation of batteries and supercapacitors, enzyme chemistry, glycochemistry, and the unique fundamental properties of ultracold molecules.
In addition to the lectures given by eminent scientists from outside Cardiff, the conference includes lectures given by PhD students and postdoctoral researchers from the Cardiff School of Chemistry. Some of the School’s very best early-career researchers will showcase their research achievements to an audience including international experts in the field.
