Cardiff University has been awarded a Block Grant Partnership (BGP) by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to provide funding for postgraduate study over the next five years.
A total of 93 awards have been given to Cardiff providing support for doctoral and masters study at the University in Humanities subject areas. Cardiff's BGP proposal was considered by the AHRC to demonstrate 'particular strength in its strategy and vision', and through its assessment, Cardiff is recognised by the AHRC as providing our students with 'excellent training and supervision'.
All subject areas maintained or improved on their historic numbers, and Cardiff has increased its market share of doctoral awards.
Awards will be re-allocated annually by the University to high-quality candidates applying to study in the Humanities subject areas at Cardiff.
Professor Teresa Rees, pro vice-chancellor for research said: "Cardiff is delighted to be able to provide AHRC support for postgraduate students across the breadth of Humanities at Cardiff, and to be recognised for our strengths in research, scholarship and training."
Humanities research at Cardiff focuses on all aspects of human experience and includes some of the longest-established fields of human academic endeavour. All disciplines explore pressing contemporary issues and contribute to wide and varied understandings of the societies in which we live. The vibrant research environment provides a stimulating context for postgraduate research and training, and interdisciplinary research is promoted.
Cardiff's Researcher and Graduate School in Humanities further supports researcher development and provides opportunities for building wider networks and communities.
