The University’s School of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education has opened its new base at the Heath Park campus.
The School’s new offices in the Neuadd Meirionnydd building comes at an important time for postgraduate medical education. Last year all medical graduates who wanted to stay in Wales were able to. However work continues to attract high quality doctors to train and remain working in Wales.
Head of School and Postgraduate Dean, Professor Derek Gallen, said: "I am delighted that we have moved into our new accommodation. Staff are very happy with the increased space and brighter rooms and this gives us an improved environment to continue our work towards being the best Deanery in the UK and delivering the highest quality training to doctors in Wales."
The School of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education provides education and training for some 2,500 doctors and dentists in postgraduate training posts and is also responsible for the Continuing Professional Development for GPs and dentists across Wales.
Dr Tony Jewell, Chief Medical Officer said: "The Postgraduate Deanery in Wales is unique, and I strongly support its future development. In areas such as appraisal and revalidation, for example, the Deanery is setting the pace in the UK.
"Assuring quality in training across Wales in the Trusts and all teaching environments has been an important area of work and we must continue to raise the standards."
The School of Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education is highly collaborative throughout Wales and works particularly closely with the Welsh Assembly Government, NHS Wales, health related Schools within the University, the Medical Royal Colleges and other professional bodies and other educational institutions. In addition to this major role in respect of training future doctors and dentists in Wales, the School also runs a number of taught academic courses at Certificate, Diploma and Masters level.
