DipTrans - Examinations

Cardiff University is a registered examination centre for the Diploma in Translation. You can sit the papers in our fully equipped computer suite.
The next exam will take place in January 2012 and the Centre fee will be £39 per paper. (Please note that the Centre fee is in addition to the examination fee required by the Chartered Institute of Linguists). Enrolment for the examinations must be done via the Chartered Institute of Linguists.
If you are interested in sitting the exam in Cardiff you need to:
- Contact Siân Austin to confirm details before applying to the Institute
- Register with the Institute by the end of October 2011
- Pay the Centre fee by December 2011
The Centre runs a number of translation courses, including an online French to English course and Spanish to English, to help students prepare for the examinations.
Registration
Registration for examinations with the Insitute of Linguists takes place between 1 May and October each year. The examinations are held in January.

Examination outline
Paper 1 3 hours |
A text of about 600 words of a demanding but non-specialised nature will be set. Candidates will be required to translate the text to a professional standard of accuracy in their target language. |
