Frequently Asked Questions about the Membership Club

Listed below are some frequently asked questions related to joining the scheme and how to go about receiving discounts and other benefits of Membership:

What is the Membership Club?

For the second year the Cardiff Centre for Lifelong Learning is running a Membership Club formerly know as the Membership Scheme. The aim of the Membership Club is to support the development of a stronger learning community of staff, tutors and students.

Why should I become a member of the Membership Club?

Membership is a great way of developing a closer relationship with the Centre. As a Learning Community, the Centre wants to explore ways in which communications can be improved, learners can be better informed and members can access further benefits including discounts off future courses.

How much does it cost to become a member?

Nothing! It’s absolutely free. All we ask is that you have sat a course last year and enrolled on a new course this year.

Eligibility

Do I have to have passed my course last year to become a member?

No, all we ask is that you enrolled on a course last year.

I am not doing a course this year. Can I become a member?

Not yet, but you could be if you enrol soon. This scheme is open to all students who enrolled on a course in 2009-10 and have returned to the Centre to enrol on a new course this year. We’re offering this facility as a 12 month trial and if it’s successful, the Centre may well broaden access to enable more students to become members.

I did a course the year before last and was told I didn't qualify. Why?

Unfortunately the scheme is only open to students who sat a course in the last academic year (i.e. September 2009 to July 2010). Hopefully, if successful, the Centre will broaden access in future years.

Advantages

What are the main advantages of being a member?

There are three different ways in which you can receive discounts on different courses at the Centre. Also you will receive an exclusive Members magazine which includes new information on the Centre, special features and details of other special offers. From time to time, we shall also be hosting a number of special events for Members. Further advantages of membership will be regularly updated on our website.

I did a course last year and asked to become a member, can I get the 10% off now?

Not straight away, but if you’ve already enrolled on a course, you are well on your way to achieving your first 10% discount. For every accredited course fully completed (including the assessment), you will receive a 10% voucher off to be redeemed against your next accredited course. These will be issued after the Departmental Examination Board have validated your course.

When will I get my 10% voucher if I recommend a friend?

As soon as your friend’s enrolment form (complete with ‘recommend a friend’ card) has been processed by the Enrolment Team, you will be posted a 10% voucher off your next course enrolment (please note the Centre’s Reception are not responsible for issuing these vouchers).

I'd like to introduce a friend to the Centre but he did do a course years back, is this ok?

Yes this is fine, the ‘recommend a friend’ offer is open to all friends except those who have studied at the Centre in the last three years. If the friend is returning having studied many years ago then he would qualify.

I am a reduced fee student. Do I still get membership discounts when they are offered?

Yes, the vouchers offer discount that can be redeemed against either the full fee or the reduced fee (for those who would normally qualify for the reduced fee).

If I do two courses this year, can I use my two vouchers to get 20% off a course the following year?

No, each voucher must be used separately and cannot be used in conjunction with any other special offer except the normal reduced fee rate. If you received two 10% discount vouchers this year then you could used them to receive 10% discount from your next two accredited course enrolments.
