Pre-entry self test Spanish

We know that these can be difficult texts and there may be techniques needed with which you are not yet familiar. Just see what you can do with this to give us an idea of your Spanish reading and translation skills. You may use any translation aid but please ensure that the final versions are your own work.

Test pieces are available below. You will receive feedback within a fortnight of submitting your work.

Submit your work to languages@cardiff.ac.uk for the attention of Siân Austin.

Test piece 1 is below the standard required for the Diploma examination but nevertheless represents a good challenge of students decoding and encoding skills appropriate to Diploma candidates a year before the examination and before the start of the course. Test Piece 2 is a Diploma standard text in which students are not expected or required to achieve a pass mark at this stage. It serves to orientate students towards the standard to which they will be working and assists the tutor in the final preparation of the course.

In submitting any work, please ensure the heading includes your full name, e-mail address, telephone number and a translation of the title. Students are requested to use Times New Roman font size 12 and to use line and a half spacing.

Please submit your test pieces with the subject heading “Pre-entry test Spanish” to languages@cardiff.ac.uk for the attention of Siân Austin.
