Module 1 - Translation practice
| Aims and objectives: | This module is first and foremost designed for students who require an intensive, highly practical run-up to the examination for Paper 1 of the Institute of Linguists' Diploma in Translation. The overall objective is to develop the student's abilities and techniques while also providing adequate, regular practice so that the student may be able ultimately to translate to professional standard under examination conditions. |
| Structure: | The module runs for twelve fortnightly sessions. Each ession contains a virtual lecture on relevant translation issues. Students are offered a past IOL Diploma in Translation exam paper to translate and submit to the tutor who will provide detailed feedback. THe focus will be on the key skills of decoding and encoding and on the technical areas eg. spelling, punctuation and correct transfer of details. Students wil also be offered a block of texts to translate during the summer break.
