This module will enable students to use a broader, but still limited range of oral, aural and written skills in Polish, sufficient for practical needs in simple everyday situations. Students will also develop an understanding of Polish cultural issues.
- most frequently used Polish cases(nominative, genitive, accusative, locative and instrumental)
- three tenses ( present, past and future tenses of imperfective verbs)
- aspect of the verb
- one mood (the indicative)
- verbs of motion
- some lexical problems
- identifying people and objects
- greetings and farewells
- types of interpersonal contact in Polish
- describing the command of foreign languages
- expressing surprise and disappointment
- making suggestions and responding to them
- inviting people and accepting invitations
- encouraging people to eat and drink in social situations
- ordering and purchasing goods
- different ways of expressing time
- Information about the largest Polish cities and regions
- Some knowledge about Polish emigration in the world
- Polish holidays (religious and state)
- Some knowledge of contemporary public figures

Who is this course for?
This course is aimed at students who have a basic knowledge of Polish, who wish to further improve their communication skills in oral, aural and written form.
Learning and Teaching
The emphasis of the course is on participation and students are encouraged to actively participate in class through various non-threatening forms of activities designed to stimulate communication.
Coursework and Assessment
To award credits we need to have evidence of the knowledge and skills you have gained or improved. Some of this has to be in a form that can be shown to external examiners so that we can be absolutely sure that standards are met across all courses and subjects.
You will not have formal examinations but you may have class tests. You may be asked to write essays at home. Our assessments are flexible to suit the course and the student.
The most important element of assessment is that it should enhance your learning. Our methods are designed to increase your confidence and we try very hard to devise ways of assessing you that are enjoyable and suitable for adults with busy lives.
