Supporting your application?
We are interested in applicants who can not only gain the required qualifications, but who can demonstrate in their supporting statements a genuine interest and motivation to study aspects of journalism, media and culture from a variety of perspectives.
The modules we offer are more analytical than practical so when we evaluate applications we are looking for candidates to provide evidence of understanding the role, nature and influence of the media.
When is the best time to apply?
The best time to apply is in the Autumn preceding the year in which you wish to start your course, or in the first few months of the same year (i.e. January – March).
For example, if you wish to enter the University in September 2012 then you should apply for a place in the Autumn of 2011. We consider applications throughout most of the year but places fill up quickly and the later you apply the less chance your application has of success.
Applicants with Disabilities/Specific Needs
If you have a disability, including dyslexia, we would like to be made aware as soon as possible. Your disclosure will be treated in a positive, sensitive and constructive way and will assist the University in the provision of an accessible and supportive environment for your learning.
Information can be provided about application procedures, course delivery and access to the physical environment; where appropriate, visits can be arranged.
Deferred Entry
We are happy to consider applications from those wishing to defer entry for a year. We ask that this be clearly indicated, with your reasons for deferral, on your application form.
Applicants Employed in Industry
If you are employed in industry and, with the sponsorship of your employers, are seeking admission to our full-time degree, you should apply through UCAS in the normal way, though you or your employer may wish to contact the University directly in the first instance.
International Students
Applications from overseas candidates will be accepted by UCAS between 1 September and 30 June. Application materials can be obtained from your own recognised agency or direct from UCAS, after 1 July. Either write to UCAS Application Requests, UCAS, Rosehill, New Barn Lane, Cheltenham, Gloucs. GL52 3LZ; Tel: (01242) 223707; Email: inter-app.req@ucas.ac.uk; or, request materials via the UCAS website at www.ucas.com. If you are an overseas candidate applying from one of the following countries you are advised to submit your applications to UCAS through the appropriate overseas students' office in London: Cyprus, Guyana, India, Luxembourg and Thailand. If you are from another overseas country, you should send your application to UCAS direct.
Mature Applicants
We welcome applications from mature students (defined as those aged 21 by 1st October in the year of admission). Mature applicants are not always subject to our standard entry requirements, and our Admissions Team will be pleased to offer advice on alternative qualifications. A number of mature students do join us with Open University or Access qualifications, and we are involved in promoting these alternative routes for admission. We, as well as you, have much to gain from mature students’ presence in the School.
Enrolment Information
Once you have formally accepted your place at the University and your place has been confirmed, normally by the end of August, you will then be sent enrolment information. This will include all the dates, times and locations for your enrolment at the University and the procedure for online enrolment.
