Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC)


Based in the School of psychology, CUBRIC is one of the first facilities in the UK to combine Structural and Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI/fMRI) and Magnetoencephalography (MEG) and will be devoted to pioneering advanced brain scanning techniques (fMRI/MEG) capable of mapping the structure and function of the healthy and impaired brain.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

Optical Coherence Tomography output image

Cardiff’s OCT expertise centres around the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences. OCT is a non-invasive, optical medical diagnostic imaging modality which enables in vivo cross-sectional tomographic visualization of internal microstructure in biological systems, achieving unprecedented image resolutions (1-3 µm), approximately 100 times better than that of conventional ultrasound.

Experimental MRI Centre (EMRIC)


Based within the School of Biosciences, the newly established Experimental MRI Centre (EMRIC) provides a flexible non-human research system, with full technical support, for Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy, and will act as a national resource for high resolution research imaging.

Wales Research and Diagnostic Positron Emission Tomography (PET) (2009)

The PET based within the School of Medicine

Based within the school of Medicine, the PET centre will provide a major boost to world-leading biomedical research at Cardiff University and bring state of the art diagnostic capabilities closer to home for thousands of patients throughout Wales.
