The Cardiff University Library Service ERASMUS Staff Development Programme was first developed by Sonja Haerkoenen, University Library Service international engagement contact, in response to enquiries for staff training from international colleagues.

Details of the 2012 programme and how to apply are now available...

Curriculum

The inaugural programme in February 2009 featured four days of seminars and workshops spanning four modules on different topics relevant to information services within the British library system.

This programme included sessions on:

2010 programme visitors

2010 visitors with Sonja Haerkoenen and Janet Peters, University Librarian.

In February 2010, the programme was expanded to include five days of teaching and visits to off-campus sites of interest such as the Cardiff Central Library and the St. Fagans National History Museum.

There were also presentations from participants drawing from their own experiences and areas of expertise.

Eleven library professionals from the Czech Republic, Finland, Poland, Spain, and Sweden attended the programme.

Most of the delegates secured funding via their own institution using the ERASMUS Staff Mobility initiative.

For further information you can also read Sonja's article on the programme in SCONUL Focus.

Applying for the next Library Service Erasmus Staff Development Programme

While participants in the past have come from EU states and professional library backgrounds, the Cardiff University Library Service Erasmus Staff Development Programme is open to anyone with an interest in information literacy training and learning about the Cardiff University library system.

The Library Service is pleased to announce the next Erasmus Staff Development Programme which will run from 16 -20 April 2012. Please see a summary of the programme for further details:

The programme has been scheduled to follow the Librarians Information Literacy Annual Conference (LILAC), venue and dates to be announced.  This offers visitors the opportunity to attend both events during their stay in the UK.  More information about LILAC will be available soon.

Attendees may also request additional, individually tailored training or sessions appropriate to their areas of interest with relevant members of staff.  These sessions may be arranged in the week prior to, or following the programme subject to staff availability.  In previous years, attendees have opted to attend information literacy classes or meet with staff in areas such as acquisitions and digitisation. Contact the programme co-ordinator to discuss your requirements as far in advance as possible.
