eduroam wireless network now available at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board sites
29 July 2013
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (UHB), working in partnership with Cardiff University, has made the eduroam wireless network available across Cardiff and Vale UHB sites.
Cardiff University's students and staff rely heavily on robust and reliable wireless networks to access the tools and services they need for their learning and teaching.
The introduction of the eduroam wireless network will enable Cardiff University staff and students working on placement in Cardiff and Vale UHB sites to access the same online resources from these sites as they do from the University.
Eileen Brandreth, Director of University IT, explains: "Previously, students on placement and members of University staff working in Cardiff and Vale University Health Board sites were unable to access a wireless network to view their research materials, emails, and other important tools and services. Following their feedback, the introduction of eduroam provides an easy and seamless link between the staff and students' Cardiff and Vale UHB location and the University services they need to access in their day-to-day research and study."
Professor Nicholas Topley, Director of the Institute of Translation, Innovation, Methodology and Engagement (TIME), added: "This is a major advance for clinical academics being able to access the academic network in all areas of the hospital; it will increase productivity and efficiency."
Hannah Pask, Heath Park Campus Officer with Cardiff University Students’ Union, said: "Previously students have struggled to access wireless internet whilst based in the hospital setting... Following the roll out of eduroam across Cardiff and Vale UHB, students and staff have been very impressed with the ease of accessibility of these resources to enhance learning, teaching and support."
The eduroam wireless network is now available via the majority of 1,400+ wireless access points on the Health Board's sites.
