24 hour opening in Arts and Social Studies Library building
29 April 2014
Students and staff can now visit the Arts and Social Studies and Law Libraries at any time of the day or night, with the introduction of 24/7 opening hours to the building.
Following last year's successful pilot scheme, the Arts and Social Studies Library building will once again be opening 24 hours a day, seven days a week between Monday 28th April and Sunday 8th June, coinciding with the busiest period of anticipated library use around the exam period.
In response to student feedback, the new opening times now cover a six week period (a week longer than last year), meaning that the extended hours are more aligned with various assessment deadlines.
In addition to the two libraries, the building is home to the eLounge, which provides a flexible social learning area and includes open access computers and three group study rooms, all equipped with PCs, whiteboards and plasma screens.
Tracey Stanley, Deputy University Librarian, said: "The new opening hours help us to further provide the students and researchers using the library's resources with more flexible support in a range of study environments, which is particularly valuable during this busy period of the academic year.
"Many of our other libraries are also operating extended hours during the spring semester" added Tracey.
The extended opening hours are for study only - support from library and IT staff is available at the following times:
- Monday to Friday: 08.30 to 21.30
- Saturday: 10.00 to 17.30
- Sunday: 12.00 to 21.30
A University ID card is required for access to the Arts and Social Studies Library building at all times.
