United Nations collection (20th C.)

Cardiff University Library is a partial depository library for the United Nations. The library contains a selected collection of UN documents, including official records of the main organs of the UN, the United Nation Treaty Series, periodicals and other publications such as bibliographies. The material has been divided into five sections: Bibliographical Sources, Official Records, Sales Publications, Treaty Series, and Specialised Agencies.

There are 3 UN produced bibliographical sources. UNDOC: Current Index, 1979- is the primary source and provides full bibliographical descriptions of all UN documents with subject, author, and title indexes in each issue. The Monthly Bibliography, 1977- provides a subject compilation of newly acquired items received by the UN Library, Geneva, of interest to social scientists. This bibliography covers far more than simply UN documents and can be treated as a general social sciences bibliography. UNBIS: Current Bibliographical Information, 1980- is a subject listing of newly acquired items received at the Dag Hammarskjold Library in New York. The Official Records section contains publications generated by the United Nations Development Programme, the UN Disarmament Commission, the Economic and Social Council, the Security Council, UNCTAD, and UNESCO. The Sales Publication section includes material published on the economic development of lesser developed countries, plus assessments of the World economy, the European economy, the Asian economy, the Latin American economy. Social questions, international law, narcotic drugs, demography, human rights and international statistics are also covered. The Specialised Agencies section comprises the publications of the UN Environment Programme and the UN Industrial Development Organisation, and General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade documents.
