South Wales Europe Direct Information Centre (SWEDIC)

For the period 2006-2009 Information Services hosted the South Wales Europe Direct Information Centre (SWEDIC) at Cardiff University.

The objective of SWEDIC was to help citizens and stakeholders find out more about the European Union, to promote debate about the European Union and to give the public the opportunity to send feedback to the EU in the form of questions, opinions and suggestions.

SWEDIC was based alongside the existing, well-established European Documentation Centre, which offers primarily an academic information service to students and researchers.

SWEDIC aimed to:

  • answer questions
  • show people how to find out about the EU
  • obtain booklets, posters and maps
  • show how the EU affects Wales
  • organise events and debates
  • help people to communicate with the EU.

SWEDIC came to an end in March 2009. However many of its services and facilities are still available in the relaunched and rebranded Cardiff EDC.
