Mushin (anaesthetics) book collection (20th C.)

A collection of around 500 volumes from the personal library of the first Professor of anaesthetics in Wales and the UK, William Mushin. All aspects of the subject are covered, with books from the early 1900s up to the 1970s.

Mushin was an important pioneer in Britain in the field of anaesthetics, who not only helped to transform anaesthetic services in Wales but was also instrumental in raising the status of British anaesthesia as a speciality. His work Automatic Ventilation of the Lungs is still widely accepted as a classic on the subject. All aspects of the subject are covered, from physiology to artificial respiration, providing an important overview of the history and development of anaesthetics.

Also held are William Mushin's personal papers; a substantial collection covering all aspects of his work.
