Library External Membership
Researchers or members of academic staff at another UK or Irish higher education institution may be eligible to use the libraries under the SCONUL Access scheme.
If you are a small business or an individual wishing to use the libraries you may be eligible to join one of our external membership schemes. Both these schemes have an annual subscription fee. Please contact the library you would like to join for further details.
- Personal membership - for individuals
- Corporate membership - for local businesses
Personal Membership
Benefits of personal membership include:
- a borrowing entitlement of up to four items at a time from any of the libraries (excluding short loan)
- use of books from Information Services stores
- use of the online public access catalogue
- reservation of books
- use of the self-service photocopiers
- use of the inter-library loans service
Please note, you may not access the networked computers in the libraries.
To discuss applying for membership please visit the library you wish to use most frequently. You will need to bring proof of identity. University identity cards are issued between 09.00 to 17.00 so we recommend you visit the library between these hours.
As a member of the University you will be expected to comply with Information Services Regulations.
Corporate Membership
Corporate external members are entitled to direct contact with a personal Information Specialist in Information Services who will be able to handle all types of information requirement as they arise promptly and accurately.
Other services available to corporate members include:
- a borrowing entitlement of up to six items (excluding short loan)
- use of books from Information Services stores
- use of the online public access catalogue
- reservation of books
- use of the self-service photocopiers (photocopying for commercial purposes may be subject to an additional copyright permission fee)
- use of the inter-library loans service
- literature searching (subject to licence restrictions)
