Ordnance Survey - the national mapping agency of Great Britain

British Geological Survey - the national geological mapping agency of Britain

Environment Agency (England & Wales) - information about land, air and water quality, water resources, waste and conservation in England & Wales. Go to 'What's in Your Backyard?' under 'Home and leisure' to find maps and information about your local area, including liability to flooding

GEOROC: Geochemistry of Rocks of the Oceans and Continents - created by the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, GEOROC contains published chemical and isotopic data as well as extensive "metadata" for rocks, minerals and melt/fluid inclusions

GreenFILE - this database focuses on information relating to the impact of humans on the environment. It includes content on global warming, sustainable agriculture, green building and renewable energy
