Information resources for Biosciences

This page will help you find academic information beyond the books and eBooks which can be located through LibrarySearch.

Cardiff University subscribes to a wealth of resources to help you find information for your research as well as providing access to academic journals and other publications.  Resources which are of particular use in the biosciences are outlined below.

Find academic publications such as journal articles and conference papers

ArticleSearch from LibrarySearch is an easy way to find some online journal articles and other high quality sources on a topic.  It's important to sign in to get full access. ArticleSearch doesn't cover all of the online journals in the library collection but it is a quick and easy starting point and all results will be available in full-text. To use ArticleSearch, go to LibrarySearch and select the ArticleSearch tab. Leave QuickSearch as the setting in the menu on the right-hand side.

Databases such as Web of Science and Scopus identify articles from a huge range of journal titles. They may offer direct access to the full text if Cardiff University subscribes to the journal.  If full-text access isn't offered, click the Check for full text button if the database has one, or use LibrarySearch to search for the title of the journal in which the article is published to see date ranges for which we have access in print, online or both.

Databases are best accessed via Cardiff Portal. Click on Library and  Databases (A-Z and MetaLib).

Google Scholar is a useful search engine for finding academic publications. When used on-campus it automatically connects you to Cardiff University subscribed full-text articles. However, if you use it at home you will need to set this up. At the top right hand side of the home screen click on Settings then choose Library links. Enter Cardiff University in the search box then select the Cardiff University results by checking the adjacent boxes.
