Wireless network connectivity is vital to the entire University community, as it enables access to Cardiff University networks such as CU-WiFi and the Higher Education JANET EDUROAM network.

To continue to support our users, INSRV's networks team works with colleagues throughout the University and Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board to expand and develop the network services. Collaborating with University's Estates Division, School of Medicine and the Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board, the team has this year expanded the wireless network provision on the Heath Park campus, in order to provide ever increasing opportunities for flexible work and study.

The wireless network coverage has been extended to six further buildings at the University Hospital Wales – Henry Wellcome, Medical Genetics, Heart Research, Tenovus, Neuadd Merionydd (including the new Café Bar), and the new Cancer Genetics building.

INSRV's network team has also carried out the major re-cabling and installation of Ty Dewi Sant, Heath Park. The project involved the building of a brand new LAN (Local Area Network) room with an equipment refresh and rewiring of 400 network points to bring a more manageable, resilient network delivering improved performance for all users and purposes.

This equates to an increase in wireless service provision at the Hospital site by 60% through the deployment of an additional 137 wireless access points. The expansion was achieved through a joint INSRV and School Of Medicine funding collaboration.
