National Science Foundation (NSF) panel review

7 January 2011

School of Chemistry

Professor Martyn Guest (Director of Advanced Research Computing @ Cardiff) participated in two panel reviews with America's National Science Foundation (NSF).

As a member of the review panel, Professor Guest, whose research interests cover a variety of topics in the development and application of computational chemistry methods on high performance computers, provides advice and recommendations concerning proposals submitted to NSF for financial support.

The National Science Foundation is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 "to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense…" the NSF is the funding source for approximately 20 percent of all federally supported basic research conducted by America's colleges and universities. In many fields such as mathematics, computer science and the social sciences, NSF is the major source of federal backing.
