Managing Other People in Research
This full-day interactive session is designed to introduce you to core people management skills. The course is tailored to be relevant to the research environment and to both the informal and formal management and supervision relationships that occur in this environment. The session will focus on improving the following key skills which contribute to effective management of people including:
- Motivating others
- Reviewing progress
- Effective one-to-one meetings
Developing these key skills will help you to develop a management style that suits your personality and is appropriate to your own situation.
This course is suitable to Research Staff who have little or no formal management experience and/or training but who are being asked to manage/supervise other researchers (including PhD students and/or technicians) on either a formal or informal basis.

PLEASE NOTE: Places on this workshop are open to staff members on a Research only contract, other staff groups are welcome to apply for a place and will be entered onto a reserve list, in the event of a place becoming vacant a week prior to the session commencing staff members will be offered a place.
