How can I view the collections?

The Institutional Archives’ collections can be viewed by bona fide researchers, via appointment, in the Special Collection’s Seminar Room located in the Arts & Social Studies Library where professional archive staff will be on hand to help you to access the records.

Arrangements to view records must be made at least a week in advance by contacting the University Records Manager, Sian Collins (email:, tel.: (029) 20879351).

Please note as well as a prior appointment, members of the public will need to present proof of identity to the library staff on the main Information Desk on Level 2 of the Arts & Social Studies Library when they arrive.

Undergraduate and taught post-graduates will need a recommendation from their School Supervisor or Head of School to use the Special Collection Seminar Room.

Access Restrictions

Access to some records may be restricted in line with data protection principles.


Photocopying can be provided for researchers. In the interests of security and preservation of collections, all copying is carried out by Governance & Compliance Division staff. Not all collections are suitable for all types of copying and we reserve the right to refuse services where the process will cause damage. In addition, copying orders can only be processed if they are in accordance with current UK copyright law.
