General

Why study at Cardiff University?

Why do over 30,000 students apply to Cardiff University each year? This session will provide information about the new student facilities at Cardiff, what life in the capital city of Wales is really like and how our graduates can look forward to one of the highest graduate employment rates in the UK. The talk will also explore the range, quality and cost of residences on offer at Cardiff and the support services available.rnrnThere will be the opportunity for visiting students and parents to ask questions to a panel of current students at the end of the presentation.

Parents’ Lounge

If parents would prefer to relax whilst their son/daughter goes on a campus tour or visits the Students' Union, they are welcome to visit the Parents' Lounge in the Graduate Centre. Situated in the Students' Union, the lounge will be open all day with snacks and drinks on sale.

Information for Teachers and Careers Advisers

Teachers and Careers Advisers visiting with school groups are welcome to visit Aberdare Hall where they will be able to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with some Welsh Cakes. Our Schools Liaison Team will visit throughout the day and will be able to answer any questions on the service they provide.

Heath Park Campus Display

The Heath Park campus is home to some of the University’s academic schools including Medicine, Dentistry and Healthcare Sciences. The site is shared with the University Hospital of Wales, one of the largest in the UK. Come and learn about the new state-of-the-art facilities and Cochrane Building and speak to current Heath Park campus students.

Student Life

The elected officers, who run the Students’ Union and represent the student population in Cardiff, give you the low down on the Students’ Union and what Cardiff has to offer. This is an ideal chance to ask questions, so come along and find out about the opportunities open to you.

Student Finance

  • Where? Large Shandon Lecture Theatre, Main Building

What are tuition fees, maintenance loans, grants, bursaries and scholarships? How and when do you apply, and what are the extra sources of money that are available? This is an interactive workshop using audience participation devices designed to answer these questions. We will also take a practical look at a typical student budget and survival tips to help you manage your budget. This talk is for undergraduate courses including entrants to Medicine and Dentistry. rnThis talk is for all undergraduate courses including entrants to Medicine and Dentistry. Sport at Cardiff University

Will sport be important to you during your time at University? This session will outline details of our sporting structure, all our sports facilities and sports bursaries, as well as student participation opportunities ranging from Intra-Mural Games to representing Cardiff University in competitive Wednesday afternoon BUCS fixtures.

NHS Funding for Healthcare related courses

  • Where? Large Shandon lecture theatre, Main Building

What funding can you apply for to help with living costs and tuition fees and how do you apply for it? What additional funding can you apply for based on your personal circumstances? How do students manage financially on these courses? This talk aims to present a realistic look at budgeting as a nursing or healthcare student.rnrnPlease note that the main Student Finance talk covers funding for Medicine or Dentistry up to the 4th year of the course. NHS funding in these subjects applies in the 5th year of study only.

Campus Tours

Why not take a walking tour with one of our student guides for a more general feel of the University and its environment? There will be plenty of time to ask questions and it’s the ideal way to find out more about the academic and social facilities in different areas of the University campus. Each tour lasts approximately 45 minutes.

City Tours

If you are new to the city of Cardiff, why not take a coach tour of the city centre and its sights? You will see Cardiff’s magnificent civic buildings (of which the University is a key part), Cardiff Castle, the Millennium Stadium and Cardiff Bay. Each tour lasts approximately 50 minutes. Please note that these tours can be extremely busy, so visitors should arrive in plenty of time to avoid disappointment.

Talybont Court

Tour of the Heath Park Campus

Visit the £18 million state of the art Cochrane Building for a tour of the facilities including the clinical skills laboratory and new purpose built Health library. There will also be current Medicine and Dentistry students on hand to answer your questions. Prospective Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare students can also take a self-guided tour of the clinical facilities in Tyˆ Dewi Sant. Stops include the X-Ray Department and Operating Theatre, Nursing and Midwifery Suite and 3D Radiotherapy facilities. Staff and students will be available to answer your questions.

Visit the University Libraries

  • Where? Libraries are located in most academic schools or ask at the Information Services Advice Shop for details, Main Building

The university has 14 libraries located across the Cathays and Heath Park campuses, each specialising in a particular subject and serving specific academic schools

Multi-faith Chaplaincy

  • When? 10:00 - 14:00
  • Where? The Chaplaincy, 61 Park Place

There are 4 full-time Christian chaplains, representing the Catholic, Anglican, Methodist and Eastern Churches. There is also a full time Muslim chaplain who, along with the Christian chaplains, provide spiritual and pastoral support for all members of the university and who act as a contact point for those of any religion and none. The university's chaplains will collaborate with other faith representatives in response to pastoral requests from students and staff. They will be on-hand to answer questions about faith communities in Cardiff and university life in general. The Chaplaincy is open for tea, coffee and informal advice.

Cardiff University Students’ Union

When you enrol at Cardiff University, you automatically become a member of the Students’ Union. Housed in its own purpose-built building, the Students’ Union exists to help students enjoy their time in Cardiff. Whether you’re looking for advice, training, a job, accommodation or want to join one of the 150 societies or 60 sports clubs, the Students’ Union is here to help. The Students’ Union is always buzzing with activity, with cafés, a pub, a nightclub, a nationally renowned live music venue and other venues that host a variety of student nights including comedy, theatre and cinema. rnrnCurrent students will be giving guided tours around the Union building and will be delighted to answer your questions about the Union and its facilities.

Cardiff University Fitness and Squash Centre – Senghennydd Road

  • When? 11:00 - 15:00 (organised tours will take place every half hour)
  • Where? Senghennydd Road

This site contains a modern Fitness Suite which includes a range of cardio machines, resistance machines and free weights. There are also three glass-backed squash courts offering the chance for students based on the Cathays Campus to keep active throughout the day.

Cardiff University Strength and Conditioning Centre – Park Place

  • When? 11:00 - 15:00 (organised tours will take place every half hour)
  • Where? 49 Park Place

This centre incorporates a full range of Olympic-based and functional training equipment in addition to a spin studio, a fitness studio and a wellbeing clinic. This centre is regularly used by International Rugby Squads when preparing for fixtures against Wales.

Cardiff University Sports Training Village – Talybont

  • When? 11:00 - 15:00 (organised tours will take place every half hour) (The last bus will leave Main Building at 14:15 and Talybont at 15:15)
  • Where? Museum Avenue

The University’s main Sports Centre, offering a wide range of facilities for club and individual use. These include sports halls, a fitness suite, indoor cricket wickets, tennis courts, grass pitches and flood-lit artificial pitches.

Careers and Employability

What careers are open to you from the courses you have in mind and how can we help you? An opportunity to talk to Careers Service staff about a wide range of issues including career options, work experience, graduate employers and postgraduate study.

Libraries and IT Facilities

Global Opportunities and International Student Enquiries

Enhance your CV and gain international experience. Studying, working or volunteering abroad as part of your university experience is a great way to broaden your academic knowledge, immerse yourself in another culture and gain skills that will be highly valued by employers. Talk to us about the opportunities available for you to spend time abroad during your studies, including the Erasmus exchange scheme. (Programmes range in length from 1 month to 1 academic year.) Staff from the Global Opportunities Centre will be on hand to provide more information about these programmes, including details about funding and bursaries.rnrnStaff will also be available to advise international students when applying to Cardiff University for full time study, as well as information on fees, funding and visa advice and guidance.
