Open days & visits

What to do when you arrive

On arrival in Cardiff, please make your way to the University’s Main Building (map ref. 39) where you can collect an information pack and programme. There are entrances from both Museum Avenue and Park Place.

Main Building is the location for all of the general talks (including Student Finance, UCAS & Applying to Cardiff and Why Cardiff?) and our drop-in advice shops. Student Life talks are located in the Students’ Union directly opposite the University’s Main Building on Park Place.

Talks and events about specific subject areas are taking place within the academic schools, so you can see the facilities that you would use as a student in Cardiff.

Getting around

You can walk around most of open day, please make sure you allow up to 15 minutes to walk from the Main Building to the academic schools.
Shuttle buses will be in use to take visitors on the accommodation tours and the city tour.

Mobile app

Download our Open Day app to help you get the most out of the day – all of the most useful information at your fingertips.

Cardiff University is a wireless campus and free Wi-Fi access is available to all open day visitors. When you arrive, select ‘CU-Visitor’ on your device and register your details. We’ll send you a text with your unique login which will allow you to make use of our Wi-fi throughout the day where ever you are on campus..

Safety Arrangements

To ensure your personal safety throughout Open Day, please adhere to all warning and instruction notices and act in a safe and responsible manner on any tours, talks or Open Day activities. In case of an emergency, immediately contact the nearest member of staff, or if you have access to a phone, please phone our Security Control Room on 029 2087 4444. In the event of a fire alarm (a continuous siren) immediately vacate the building by the nearest exit and remain outside until told by University staff that it is safe to re-enter. If you are on an upper floor and have difficulty in negotiating stairs, please make your way to one of the designated safe-haven points, which are sign-posted, and use the telephone there to seek further assistance. Please note that lifts should not be used in the event of a fire.

Meeting points

If you lose a family/group member or become lost on Open Day, please make yourself known to a member of our Security staff in the Porters’ Lodge in any of the University buildings.

Lost property

Please report any items of lost property to staff on the Information Desks, or Security staff.
