Travel and parking

Main Building

Cardiff University's Cathays Park campus is located in Cardiff city centre. As with any city centre location, parking can be limited.  We would encourage our visitor to use public transport where possible. Here are some travel instructions to help you find the university's main building.

By rail

Visitors should travel to Cardiff Central Station (rail and coach stations are adjacent to one another). Local rail services run regularly from platform 6 of Cardiff Central Station calling at Cathays Station, which is next to Cardiff Students' Union and directly opposite the University's Main Building. Student ambassadors will be on-hand at Cardiff Central Station to direct you to the train to the University. (The journey takes approximately 6 minutes).

Coach

For coach information, please visit the National Express website.

It is worth noting that selected services stop at Cardiff University as well as the main bus station.

Private coaches

Coaches should approach the University along King Edward VII Avenue, turn into College Road and right into Museum Avenue where they can unload.

Park and Ride service

Cardiff Council operate Park & Ride services from Cardiff East and West every fifteen minutes. Cardiff East Park & Ride offer an 'Early Bird £1 all-day offer' providing you park before 8.30am on Open Day. Buses run every 15 minutes and stop outside the University's Main Building. Please follow the signs on the A48. For further information, please visit the Cardiff Council website.

City centre parking

There are a number of public car parks within easy walking distance of the University - those in Dumfries Place (accessed via St Andrew's Place) and North Road may be the most convenient. Additionally, an on-street pay and display parking system operates in some streets surrounding the University campus. This typically costs around £3.50 for five hours. Payment is by coin or debit/credit card. Parking in the North Road car park is £5.00 per day (charges for city centre multi-storey car parks vary considerably, up to £12 per day).

By air

Several inter-regional and international air services operate from Cardiff Wales Airport. The airport is located approximately 12 miles from the city centre. Visitors arriving here should take the X90 bus to Cardiff Central Station or a free bus to Rhoose (Cardiff International Airport) Railway Station. All rail services from Rhoose travel to Cardiff Central Station, and many also travel to Cathays Station.
