CertHE Dental Nursing

The aim of the Certificate of Higher Education in Dental Nursing at Cardiff University is to provide students with a comprehensive knowledge of dental nursing alongside an opportunity to gain clinical experience in a dental practice environment.

In combining both the intellectual knowledge and practical experience, it will ensure you receive an all-inclusive education and training experience which will allow you to practice safely and competently as a dental nurse in a wide range of clinical dental procedures. Dental nurses have an essential role in the provision of care to the patient undergoing dental treatment, support for the operator, and are a vital member of the dental team.

A fundamental part of the programme is to promote professionalism and team working as a dental care professional and to encourage you to work within the General Dental Council Standards for the Dental Team.

This programme is awaiting approval from the General Dental Council.

To gain your range of hands-on experience, learning occurs outside the University in practice placement settings. Placements  increase the diversity of practice, widening your skills base.

There are several elements of assessment for each taught module.

The formative and summative assessment of students’ knowledge and skills will be achieved by a specific combination of methods to assess knowledge, skills, safety and clinical competence. On-script and summative feedback on each assignment or ‘performance’ will help in the development of relevant skills required in producing case reports, practice profiles and broader skills.
