Applicants offering entry requirements over 3 years old will be required to provide evidence on recent study at an appropriate level.
A minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above. These must include English or Welsh Language, Mathematics and a Physical Science.In certain circumstances Key Skills level 3 in Communication and Application of number may be accepted in lieu of English/Welsh and Mathematics.Applications will only be considered from those applicants that have already obtained these qualifications.
Plus one of the following:
3 A-Levels. A typical profile being BBB. General Studies and key skills will not be included.
Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Diploma with a pass in the Core and grades BB at GCE A-level.
The National Diploma in Health Studies should be passed with a minimum of DDM as the final award. BTEC in Early Years should be passed with DDD as the final award. Other relevant BTEC National Diplomas may be considered.
A minimum of 300 UCAS points - B grade.
AAAB Plus credit standard grades in English Language, Mathematics and a Physical Science.
A1B3C3C3C3C3 at higher level to include a C in English Language, Mathematics and a Physical Science. Four other subjects are also required at ordinary level.Each case is considered individually.
Obtain Diploma with an overall score of 28 points. English Language, Mathematics and a Physical Science must be offered at Subsidiary or GCSE level, if not at higher level.
Obtain Diploma with an overall score of 60-69%.
Evidence of recent successful study at an appropriate level is required. Recent is within the last three years. Appropriate level is Advanced Level or equivalent.
Students must offer a credit based nursing or health based Diploma level course validated by The Open College Network. This should be passed with a minimum of 6 distinctions, 33 merits and 6 passes, which must come from within the rules of combination and credit. Applicants offering an access qualification would not require GCSE qualifications.
This should be passed with a minimum of 60 level 1 credits. In addition students must meet the Maths, English Language and Science GCSE requirements. Other relevant OU modules may be considered.
Academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with an overall score of 7.0 with not less than 7.0 in listening and reading and not less than 7.0 in writing and speaking. (Please note: this applies to overseas students who have pre arranged application arrangements).

Please note: Deferred entry is not available for the Bachelor of Midwifery programme.
The School is happy to consider transfer requests from those who are already studying Nursing or Midwifery at another institution. Initial enquiries should be directed to the School Information Desk. Existing Cardiff University students will need to apply via UCAS in the usual way.
Applicants will be expected to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs including English Language, Maths and a Physical Science at grade C or above. In certain circumstances Key Skills at Level 3 in Communication and Application of Number may be accepted in lieu of English/Welsh and Mathematics.
There are two intakes a year. One in September the other in February/March for the Bachelor of Nursing (Hon's) programme (Adult and Mental Health) with approximately 160 places in each intake.
Please note: September intake only for the Bachelor of Midwifery (Hons) with approximately 37 places in each intake. September intake only for the Bachelor of Nursing (Hons) programme (Child) with approximately 25 places in each intake.

In the case of applicants whose first language is not English, competence in the English language is also a criterion of admission.

Applicants must already meet or be working towards the pre-requisite entry qualifications.
Applications should be made via Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) www.ucas.com
Applications are made on-line via the UCAS website using the "UCAS apply" facility. To use this facility you need to access www.ucas.com/apply. The UCAS website will provide you with information on how to apply and will explain the procedure for application.
Please Note: Deadline for applications for programmes commencing 2013/14 is 15th January 2013.
Following confirmation of offers enrolment/continuation on the programme will be conditional upon a satisfactory health screening and Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Disclosure/Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) registration.
All applicants who accept an offer are required to complete a health questionnaire prior to enrolment. The information submitted is assessed independently by the Occupational Health Department, and there are three possible outcomes:
All students must complete this process before starting the course.
NB: Midwifery Students must have a validated negative sample for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. This is arranged by the Occupational Health Department following commencement of the programme.

All applicants must meet the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s (NMC) good health and character, fitness to practice requirements.
This will be achieved by providing a satisfactory CRB disclosure and registration. These costs will be met by the applicant. Applicants will also be required to provide a ‘Statement of Character’ in addition to their UCAS reference. Applicants are encouraged to disclose any relevant information to the schools Nursing and Midwifery Council Fitness to Practice Panel as early as possible during the application process.
All applicants will be required to have a satisfactory health screening prior to enrolment on their programme of study. This is conducted independently by the University’s Occupational Health department.
Advice regarding all these processes will be provided by the schools’ selection and admissions department during the application process.
However, should applicants require any other guidance regarding good health and character requirements the selection and admissions department would be delighted to meet their needs.
All applicants are treated on an individual basis and any information disclosed will be treated in confidence. Health and character requirements are conditions of enrolment. Therefore they are independent to the selection process and do not influence selection decisions.
The Cardiff School of Nursing and Midwifery Studies will consider resit candidates on an individual basis.
