Admissions Criteria

This information will assist applicants in assessing whether they have the skills, attributes and qualifications which Cardiff School of Nursing and Midwifery Studies has identified as being important if students are to succeed on its undergraduate programmes of study. It also summarises the process which the School uses for selecting students and making offers, so that applicants understand how the School considers their applications.

All pre-registration undergraduate Nursing and Midwifery programmes. If you are a qualified nurse, please contact the School direct as the following admissions criteria may not apply.

Profile of Applications

Cardiff School of Nursing and Midwifery Studies is a thriving centre of teaching and research in the fields of adult nursing, mental health nursing, children and young people’s nursing and midwifery, with a local, national and international reputation in all areas. The School receives over 2500 applications for around 320 undergraduate places each year so competition for places is high.

Opportunities to learn more about the School and its programme of study

A University Open Day is held in April each year and provides the opportunity to visit all academic schools in addition to the residences, the Students’ Union and sports facilities. Please see our Open Day webpage for further details.

Visits to the School are encouraged. School Information Days offer a full programme of events including information on adult nursing, children's nursing, mental health nursing and the midwifery programme, and opportunity to meet staff and existing students, to discuss the admissions process, career opportunities and learn about important aspects of the programmes.
