The academic and practical requirements for W302 (BMus Honours) and W300 (BA Single Honours in Music) are as follows:
Applications to the BMus (W302) and BA Single Honours in Music (W300) courses that have grade predictions lower than BBB will be rejected, unless there are mitigating circumstances. Applicants with BBB predictions and above, showing evidence of required levels of practical music-making, are invited to attend an interview/audition.
Joint Honours applicants are assessed on the basis of whether they meet the standard offer for each individual course.
BA Joint honours candidates will not be invited for audition and interview. Instead, candidates will be invited to attend a Humanities Inter-School Open Day specifically for Joint Honours applicants.
Standard offers are as follows, and all include A2 Music:
All joint honours applicants must show evidence of Grade 8 practical in any instrument or voice (either obtained or working towards) and the combination of Grade 8 practical and Grade 8 Music theory may be substituted for A2 Music.
For entry you will need A levels in Physics, Music and a mathematical subject. You will also be required to show evidence of Grade 8 practical in any instrument or voice (either obtained or working towards). The combination of Grade 8 practical and Grade 8 Music theory may be substituted for A2 Music.
Welsh Baccalaureat Advanced Diploma with a pass in the Core and three A-levels in Music, Physics and Maths.
A standard offer for the BSc in Physics & Music (FW33) is ABB in Physics, Maths and Music (in any order). BSc candidates (Physics & Music) will be invited to attend an interview jointly organised by the School of Music and the School of Physics and Astronomy. In the case of applicants whose first language is not English, competence in the English language is also a criterion of admission.
