Admissions Criteria

This information will assist applicants in assessing whether they have the skills, attributes and qualifications which Cardiff School of Medicine has identified as being important if students are to succeed on its undergraduate programmes of study. It also summarises the process which the School uses for selecting students and making offers, so that applicants understand how the School considers their applications.

Scope of the Criteria

The undergraduate BSc Medical Pharmacology degree programme. The aims of the policy are:

• To provide a set of selection protocols/criteria for the recruitment of undergraduate students of the highest quality in accordance with the School of Medicine admissions policy.
• To select students who are suited to benefit from the educational provision of the course and who can fulfill the objectives of the programme;
• To act as a guideline for the Admissions Tutor to ensure that the recruitment process is fair, open, transparent and adheres strictly to the University’s equal opportunities policy;
• To minimise inappropriate applications;
• To facilitate feedback (especially to unsuccessful applicants)

In excess of 170 applications for 16 places (2011 figures).

Opportunities to learn more about the School and its programme of study

A University Open Day is held in April each year and provides the opportunity to visit all academic schools in addition to the residences, the Students’ Union and sports facilities. Please see our Open Day webpage for further details.

All applicants to the School will be invited to a UCAS Visit Day to discuss their application with staff and to see the School and its facilities.
