Entry Requirements - Modern Languages

Minimum Entry Requirements

Applications are considered from candidates offering a range of qualifications.

Language Beginners

Applicants who have not studied the language previously are welcomed on the French, German, Spanish and Italian degree programmes. Grade B or above in another foreign language at A-Level is normally required.

Entry requirements for candidates with A-levels or the Welsh Baccalaureate

Standard offers for applicants with A-levels or the Welsh Baccalaureate vary for each degree scheme and are available on our website.

Note that General Studies A-level is not accepted, but Critical Thinking A-level is accepted.

Entry requirements for candidates with alternative and international qualifications

We welcome applicants with alternative or international qualifications.  A guide is available to help you find an approximate 'translation' of alternative or international qualifications into their standard A-level equivalents.

Other information

In the case of applicants whose first language is not English, competence in the English language is also a strict criterion of admission.

More information is available on the English Language Requirements page.

Additional requirements for admission

There are no specific additional requirements for admission.

Resit candidates

Resit applicants are accepted and will be considered on an individual basis.
