This information will assist applicants in assessing whether they have the skills, attributes and qualifications which Cardiff School of Earth and Ocean Sciences has identified as being important if students are to succeed on its undergraduate programmes of study. It also summarises the process which the School uses for selecting students and making offers, so that applicants understand how the School considers their applications.
The aims and objectives of the School admissions policy is:
All undergraduate Earth and Ocean Sciences degree programmes.
Cardiff School of Earth and Ocean Sciences is one of the largest Earth Science departments in the UK with an average intake target of 145 places for each academic session. Competition for places is high, with the majority of applicants meeting or exceeding the School’s minimum requirements. An applicant’s chances of receiving an offer are greatly improved if s/he can demonstrate that s/he is appropriately qualified and/or a good match with the School’s academic requirements.

A University Open Day is held in April each year and provides the opportunity to visit all academic schools in addition to the residences, the Students’ Union and sports facilities. Please see our Open Day webpage for further details.
Applicants to the School will be invited to a UCAS Visit Day to discuss their application with staff and to see the School and its facilities.
