University Graduate College: Enhancing the experience of Postgraduate Researchers
All research students are assigned a main supervisor and at least one secondary or co-supervisor.
Your main supervisor provides support and guidance for your research project, offers expert advice and direction, and will encourage you to achieve your full potential.
Before applying for a research degree, it is wise to identify a potential main supervisor, discuss the research project with them and get to know them.
Depending on the research project, secondary or co-supervisors are involved because they have relevant knowledge and skills.
Alternatively, they’re someone to whom you can refer general academic and personal issues and may be referred to as advisor, mentor or personal tutor.
Supervisors are supported by the University Graduate College (UGC) to ensure a quality research experience. Visit the UGC site for more details.
