Postgraduate Information Fair: Visit us on Thursday, 23 April
Many postgraduates get part-time jobs during their studies. Of course, it’s vital that you balance the demands on your time to get the most out of your experience as a postgraduate student.
The Unistaff Jobshop is a service run by the Students’ Union which offers temporary and flexible employment within the University and with local companies.
Students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) are no longer required to obtain permission to work* but are limited to a maximum of 20 hours a week in term time. During vacation time, taught students are allowed to work an unlimited number of hours - however, research students are only permitted six weeks of full-time employment per year.
*Students from Bulgaria and Romania should visit this website to check the restrictions placed upon their ability to work within the UK.
"I am a self-funded student and have registered with the University Jobshop, who send me regular updates on part-time job opportunities. I would suggest postgraduates (especially international students) contact the University to find out about the large number of funding opportunities available here."
Devika Jeet, MA International Journalism
"As a self-funded student I have been lucky enough to find part-time work through the University Jobshop to support my studies. I also work as an undergraduate seminar tutor. I find such work valuable and would recommend it to anyone. Teaching is daunting at first but you quickly become comfortable - and helping students is extremely satisfying."
Phil Roberts, PhD Philosophy
