The information and documents below contain very important information that you need to know about coming to Cardiff for the English for University Study Programme 2014.

Please read everything carefully!

22 – 26 September 2014

All students need be in Cardiff for the start of Induction Week, Monday 22 September 2014. During Induction Week there are important meetings to attend, you will take our entry test and you will be able to meet your tutors and other students on the course. You will receive a lot of important information in this week which will help you settle into academic life at Cardiff University, so it is very important that you arrive for the start of induction on 22 September 2014.

Welcome Meeting

With Helen Evans, (Director, English Language Programmes for International Students) and Shaun Tiddy (English for University Study Programme Coordinator).

Compulsory Entry Test

Students are tested with multiple choice language test and written text.

Monday 22 September 2:15pm Outside Main Building Walking Tour of the University campus with your teachers. We will give you an appointment time at your welcome meeting.
Tuesday 23 September 10.00am Deri House (map reference 60)

Payment of Fees and Registration

Please remember that the best way to pay is by cheque or bank draft made payable to ‘Cardiff University’!

Compulsory Speaking Test

Course Information Session

Meet Shaun Tiddy, coordinator of your course, teachers and support staff. You will be given a checklist of necessary tasks to be completed during this week. Followed by coffee and refreshments with your teachers and administrative staff.

Wednesday 24 September Afternoon Various

FREE AFTERNOON TO COMPLETE NECESSARY TASKS

Important: Do not forget to collect your student ID card and bank letters, register with the Police (check your visa to see if you need to) and register with a local doctor.

Thursday 25 September All day Various

Course Orientation

A discussion of course expectations, performance, assessment, module content, timetabling and reports with Shaun Tiddy and Allyson White, English Language Programmes Manager. Important: you will receive your class allocation and timetables at this meeting.

University residences

University residences will be available for you to move into between Wednesday 17 September 2014 and Sunday 21 September 2014.

If you told us that you would like to live in University accommodation AND you have an unconditional offer for the English for University Study Programme, you will have received an email from us which tells you how to apply for a place in university residences. Accommodation for English for University Study Programme students will be in the Talybont South residence.

English for University Study Programme students apply for accommodation in a different way to other students. You must follow the instructions in the document below.

Using your computer in University residences

RESLAN is the University’s computer network in halls of residence. You will need to check whether your computer meets the minimum security requirements for use on the University network. please access the Internet with the machine you are bringing with you and click on the link below. You will need to do this again just before you leave home, to make sure nothing has changed.

Private accommodation

If you wish to live in private accommodation, please make sure you arrive in Cardiff early to allow yourself enough time to look for and move into a suitable flat or house. You will find it very difficult to do this once the course has started. If you would like any further information regarding private accommodation please email residences@cardiff.ac.uk
