What documents do I need to prepare and bring with me?

To register with the police you will need:

Please come to your appointment with all the above items. If you don’t have all the documents the police cannot issue a Registration certificate.

How long will it take to register with the Police?

Normally appointments only take 20 minutes. Though this depends on the number of questions the police need to ask you and if you’ve completed the questionnaire correctly.

Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your appointment time, so you should not have to wait too long.

Want priority? Make an appointment!
People with appointments are given priority over those who do not have appointments. So if you turn up at the International Office without an appointment, you will have to wait.

Please be patient, staff will try their very best to try to get you seen by the Police that same day.

Why is it important to register with the Police?

Your police appointment is a very important and is a priority for you when you first arrive. In fact it is more important than attending any University classes or activities. This is because it is a legal immigration requirement of your entry into the UK. If you fail to register with the police you could be prosecuted and there will be a note put on your immigration record. This will negatively affect any future visa applications you may make to extend your stay in the UK.

If you miss your appointment set up for you on University campus

You will have to make an appointment yourself with the Police, This means contacting the Police Registration Office yourself to make an appointment, and then travelling on your own to Rumney Police Station in East Cardiff. This will be inconvenient and cost you more money and time.
