Can I use my mobile phone in the UK?

You will need to ensure your mobile phone is GSM compatible to roam in the UK and you will find using a UK SIM card to be much cheaper.

To use a UK SIM card you will probably need to ‘unlock’ your phone. You can then use a pay-as-you-go system to pay for the calls you make.

When you arrive the International Office will give you a free mobile SIM card which has a small amount of credit so you can phone home.

If you’re not bringing a mobile phone you may find it useful to have a credit card or, if possible, a small amount of loose change, so you can call home when you first arrive.
