All students who are coming to Cardiff as part-session Erasmus students or Research Postgraduate Student in January are unfortunately not guaranteed a place in University Residences. Of course, you are still able to apply (www.cardiff.ac.uk/residences ) and the accommodation office will do their best to support your application. During the end of the Autumn semester, there are usually a small number of vacancies that become available so, if you would like to try and apply, you should do so now. The accommodation office will be able to let you know if you have a room either in December or January. Otherwise, we advise that you look for private accommodation in Cardiff. This can be an expensive time. You will need to ensure you have sufficient funds to support you for the beginning of your placement as you will need to stay in temporary accommodation while looking for a permanent residence. We do not advise that you agree to take any property on the private market before visiting the property in person. You may therefore need to wait until you arrive in Cardiff before accepting any private accommodation. We strongly advise that you book temporary accommodation for your first few days so that you have somewhere to stay on arrival. I have attached a list of hostels, hotels and bed & breakfast to this email in order to help if you need temporary accommodation at anytime during your stay in Cardiff.
Cardiff Student Letting Agency
This is the best place to start looking for private accommodation. Cardiff Student Letting is and agency owned and run by Cardiff University Students’ Union. This letting agency is keen to keep the cost to students at a minimum and does not charge an agency fee.

The Advice and Representation Centre staff in the Students’ Union can also help. They are happy to check your tenancy agreement before you sign a contract or pay any monies to your landlord. Staff can also refer you to a solicitor.
