Roath is beyond Cathays and borders the stunning Roath Park in the north.
The area is bound roughly by City Road on the west, Newport Road in the south and Roath Park in the north. Though quite a large area, a lot of Roath is fairly close to the main University campus.
While popular with students, Roath tends to house more third-years and postgraduates and boasts a quieter, more residential atmosphere.
Roath is well-supplied with shops, supermarkets and coffee houses. The park is beautifully kept, with a large boating lake surrounded by a path for walking or running, as well as tennis courts and a rugby field.
For local pubs, try The George on the corner of Albany and Crwys Road, or The Albany on Dalcross Street. For those with a more refined palate, try the Pear Tree or Juno Lounge, both on Wellfield Road. Further down City Road is A Shot in the Dark – a regular haunt of the Stereophonics, apparently, and finally, The Globe on Albany is a great little live venue for a local night on the tiles.
