Walking away from the city centre, over the River Taff with the Millennium Stadium on your left, you reach Canton.
Canton is 10-15 minutes walk from the city centre and about 25 minutes walk from the university. There are regular buses to the City Centre as well, only a 5-7 minute ride away.
Canton is very much a community-based area – not studenty in the least, though more lively than Roath – and is therefore often popular with postgraduates.
Canton has all the cafes, shops, public services and bars you could hope for. It is a more lively area than Roath, but also has plenty of green spaces. The extensive Bute Park lies alongside the Taff, marking the border between Canton and the city centre. This is joined to the not inconsiderably-sized Pontcanna fields across the river, making it ideal for running, walking, or simply enjoying the outdoors. The smaller Victoria Park is also located in Canton, although slightly further away from the city centre.
In addition to a range of pubs and clubs, Canton is home to the quite unique Chapter Arts Centre. Chapter offers patrons a theatre, cinema, gallery, bar, café and shop, in addition to running classes such as yoga, dance, drama and photography.
